change expensive WAVES plugins with cool FREE Vst

This is a little list how you can change your expensive waves plugins with good freeware vst. I start the list with Native Power Pack which has include all standard Plugins from Waves.

DER KLEANER a hardware based 18db HighPass & 12db LowPass Filter

DER KLEANER is the first DIY project of my best friend Bruce and me und our branding AG-KW. It is a serious hardware based 18db HighPass Butterworth and 12db LowPass Bessel Filter for Liveacts and/or Mastering works.

We build it totally from scratch. First steps was to think about how should it work and calculating frequencies with standard schematics for different kind of filters. After that Bruce created the Schematics and I designed the Frontpanellayout.

Our friend Phil from Philsynth etched us the PCB and we bought all parts to start the soldering.

Molot Compressor Plugin

Another week another plugin. The gearslutz forum will be my new home...hehe :)



Today I will show you the MOLOT Compressor Plugin for AU and Vst plattforms.
The MOLOT has emulated characteristics of Neves 33609 and Fairchild 670 Compressor and incl up to 8x oversampling. For the first tryouts I think its very close to my UAD plugins of this units. So try it out!

LoudMax - Free VST Limiter Plugin

Im using a Waves Plugins Bundle since many years. Waves is very expensive and the most algorithms like the very famous brickwall limiters L1 and L2 are more than 10 years old and where never updated. I like the L1+ for mastering as the latest instance to catch peaks and cause the included dithering option. But L1 always produce DC offset at rendering. Sometimes I also used L1 for hard limiting in some single channels at mixdown, but when you go to -18db or more(ok, its very crazy to read) L1 always create distortion and sounds not good.



But, few Days ago I find a new vst called LoudMax on the internet and tried it out. Its free and the results are good. I tried it also with maximum threshold of -30db and WOW! it sounds already clean on each level. You have to try it out.

Build your own Thing!

While searching for a way to find an alternative to a TR-909, I had the idea to extend my 3HE Eurorack modular system with 909 parts.

This guy has recreated all single instruments of a TR-909 and 808 as single modules for a modular system. You can find his modules and the documentations on his website. And also pictures of the PCBs and how to build it:
